I'm not familiar with a "monte christo," but there was a place here that served a "monte crisco": ham and cheese sandwich with french toast for bread, deep-fried, then covered in powdered sugar.

That is correct; it's essentially a very fancy americanized varient of a croque monsieur.
I managed to coerce the local International House of Pancakes to make one for me a few years ago, and it came out pretty good.

Now, a foot long version of one? I can feel my arteries hardening and toes curling up just thinking about it. :D :D :D

It is VERY hard to find a place that serves a GOOD one -- and my local sources have largely closed down!

(A GOOD one is when the entire sandwich is battered and deep-fried, and even then, it's hard to get just right. The ones that are just a ham, turkey and cheese sandwich on limp French toast are abominations.)
