The raid on the unicorn-deer village happened so quickly, there was no time to do anything except run. Having managed to escape the initial attack Brynda encounters the adversary's backup. Brynda's thoughts swirled with panic and fear. Deciding that it was better to live and face the judgement of their herd than die Brynda embraced their forbidden abilities. What would their elders think of this abhorrent use of magic? Were they even alive to know? Their coat sizzled and transformed, much like the assailants' second guessing their decision to lay siege to the home of a sorcerer who does not yet know the limit to their newly revealed powers. After burning a hole through the offending wall Brynda continued to run and not look back. It would be years before they would learn the fate of their village and the remainder of their kind.

For context, using powerful magic such as this painlessly ignites a unicorn-deer's coat and permanently alters the brown fur into shades of blue and white as its use continues, inevitably turning them entirely white if used too much. It makes them extremely conspicuous in a forest, leaving them needing to use it more often to survive. It also reduces their coats insulation, leaving them colder in the dead of winter.
