.Biography: Coming from the prominent McKales, the wealthiest family in Canada, Kiyoko was born of Carell McKale, a Canadian dragon businessman, and Sayaka Takahashi, a Japanese salamander daughter of a wealthy Japanese businessman, making Kiyoko a dragon-salamander hybrid. Since his birth, Kiyoko has been blind throughout his life and was under the constant care of his parents and servants. However, he was able to learn some schoolwork through braille and basic necessities such as bathing and eating during his childhood and he was known to be eccentric, surreal, and often scatterbrained. But he will later be skilled in other extraordinary abilities as he got older. When Kiyoko learns to do more abilities despite his blindness, his mother decides to help him learn and develop more from highly skilled and masterful Japanese, Buddhist monks she knows of who trained many people with different conditions from other parts of the world to become highly successful students who go on to live successful lives. They are members of a selective and noble society called the Hikari Order. Kiyoko was sent and lived in one of his ancestral homelands, Japan, where he was greatly taught by the Hikari Order monks, converted to Buddhism, and took up acting in Japanese plays such as noh and nogaku due to him dreaming of becoming an actor in adventure-based plays or dramas where he’s a famous fighter. It inspired him to join groups of martial artists in practicing aikido, karate, and ninjutsu, becoming a highly skilled martial artist much to the surprise of many of his mentors and studying partners because of his blindness, thinking of it as a miracle and comparing him to Helen Keller. His mentors gave him a black belt, a pair of nunchucks called the Raiu Nunchaku, and his own katana sword dubbed Eregantona burēdo (Japanese for elegant blade). He is also given the honorary title of being the first Canadian ninja with the name, Kirakuna Kemono, which is Japanese for “Lighthearted Beast.”
When Kiyoko reunites with his family, they were happy with how much he has developed over the years and decided Kiyoko will participate in the family business by starting out as an assistant manager in one of their chain grocery stores in their hometown of Calgary, (his main task being using a label dispenser gun to relabel packages of ham slices as Canadian bacon). However, Kiyoko wishes deeply to do more with his abilities. He later joins his parents in a trip to Los Angeles during the unveiling of a new massive, technologically advanced waterbombing plane that the McKale family had their company build and donate to the city of Los Angeles for extinguishing wildfires. During the party, many wealthy participants were having their valuables such as watches and jewelry being stolen by infamous French Bonelli eagle master thief, Arsène Lupin, who rudely took the last Swedish meatball from the catering table that Kiyoko wanted to have, and the dragon/salamander hybrid assault him with his karate moves, going so far as to slice off his hand with his katana to get the meatball. Lupin is badly wounded and revealed to the crowd including the stolen valuables he took. Lupin is arrested and Kiyoko is praised as a hero, gaining the attention of making him one of the four original members of the Lucky Mavericks. He gained the nickname, "Fudge", by most of his teammates due to his big appetite, including eating fudge candies on a regular basis, and an enthusiast of all types of cuisine. When Oliver Red was later recruited into the group, Kiyoko along with his fellow 3 members, mentored him.
.Personality: Kiyoko is kind, good-natured, highly optimistic, and very eccentric with tendencies of being mildly scatterbrained and a child at heart despite his adulthood. He's the most lighthearted and sociable member of the group and usually sees anyone as a potential friend. A couple of his eccentricities are the tendency to randomly shout out nonsensical words or phrases and even sleeping with his katana while cuddling with it like a teddy bear, however he has been trying to end that last habit when his friends are disturbed when catching the sight of him doing that at night. Kiyoko has lived being the surreal type since his childhood. When he was younger, he used to feed his pet cat dog food, thinking he will turn into a rottweiler and train it to bite off a neighborhood bully’s face. His eccentricities are partly stemming from him being an only-child and hardly having any friends during his childhood, being sometimes a loner back then. He cares deeply for those close to him, including his teammates, due to them being the first actual best friends he has, and hates being separated or losing them, making his deep loyalty one of his strongest personal traits. Despite coming from a vastly wealthy family, Kiyoko doesn't have feelings of being spoiled and materialistic.
His blindness doesn't bother him and he's comfortable with his condition. While training with his martial arts mentors, he was about to feel other people's presence by strengthening his other senses. He's a fan of movies and cartoons and able to understand them most of the time by thinking of them being played in his mind while listening to them. He's a fan of the Three Stooges and made a reference to them once.
Despite his childlike traits and moments of being scatterbrained, Kiyoko has moments of maturity and responsibility and still a pivotal member of the Lucky Mavericks for being a highly skilled martial artist that is capable of fighting off and defeating large armies of opponents up to over a hundred fighters with his advanced hand-to-hand combat, agility, acrobatics, and masterful experience with ninja weaponry. He has moments of being intelligent and responsible at times when it is needed, especially strategizing plans on fighting the enemy. McKale sometimes uses a battle cry called "Shuso Zen" when unleashing his Eregantona burēdo or Thunderstorm Nunchucks upon his enemies.
.Inspiration: The main inspiration for McKale is Steve Carell's character, Brick Tamland, from the Anchorman film franchise, influencing me wanting to have a comic relief character for the Lucky Mavericks, and I had the idea of him for years since the early-to-mid 2010s, long after I created Oliver Red. His childlike and scatterbrain personality is influenced by multiple eccentric fictional characters such as Alan Garner played by Zack Galifianakis in Warner Brothers' The Hangover film franchise, Ed from Cartoon Network's Ed, Edd n Eddy, and Michelangelo from Kevin Eastman, Peter Naird, and Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles such as from the 2012 TV series, and Beast Boy from DC and Warner Brothers’ Teen Titans with Kiyoko’s middle name influenced by Beast Boy’s real name, Garfield Logan. McKale was originally supposed to be a guinea pig, but I wanted more non-mammal characters to be added in to make the character more creatively unique and diverse, so later on he was a turtle before deciding on making him a dragon-salamander hybrid seeing that having him be half-amphibian and half-mythical creature makes him more unique. The inspiration for him to become a ninja is the samurai character, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, by the late Monkey Punch's Japanese manga series, Lupin lll, as I want to give McKale a stronger, dynamic, and pivotal position in the Lucky Mavericks. His original position in the group is a constable before deciding on master-of-disguise expert, however wanting to avoid similarities to the then-recently released DreamWorks animated film, The Bad Guys, including the master-of-disguise character, Mr. Shark, I made McKale a ninja. His name was also originally Fudgy McKale, inspired by a past habit of mine influenced by the name of the character, Punsie McKale, from the Cartoon Network animated series, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. Later on, I learned that it is too ridiculous and unrealistic for someone to have, Fudgy, a given name even for a cartoon character. So, I decided to make "Fudge" his nickname from his teammates. The decision to make McKale blind is influenced by the character, Toph Beifong, from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise after deciding to make McKale a ninja. And McKale being nicknamed “Fudge” is downgraded as lighthearted teasing from Cherry and other members of the Lucky Mavericks in certain moments is similar to that of Toph Beifong calling the Avatar: The Last Airbender main protagonist, Aang, “Twinkle Toes.” McKale's battle cry, "Shuso Zen" is a tribute to the same quote Keegan-Michael Key's character, Coach Sandoval Hines, a favorite character of mine from Warner Brothers' MadTV has said.
