When coming up with the character of Oscar the Grouch, they were looking for a voice and accent for him. One of the team members for the show jumped into a New York Taxi, and the Cabbie immediately demanded, "Where to, Mac?" in a rude tone.

And thus we know the history of where Oscar got his particular ways.

Hmmm...Interesting. I did not know that. Then again, that was back in, oh what, the 60's? 70's? Most cabbies that I've had in the last 10 years have been foreigners. At least a good 80% have, anyway. Maybe he would get a job as a cabbie but would live in his car.
