In addition, grouping of drinks on the cap was really shock for me.
COKE / DIET / OTHER
Coffee and tea are OTHER DRINKS in America!
Of course coffee (and sometimes tea) isn't a healthy beverage, but even healthier than coke.
We can't loose our weight only with diet coke and vegetables :(

I always think of coffee as something to drink in the morning-- in fact in New Jersey many convenience stores will sell a "commuter's breakfast" which is a cup of coffee and a buttered roll.
And tea is something I think as an "at home" drink. Y'know put a kettle on and have it waiting for me. It seems sort of silly to pay at a restaurant for tea when I know 99% of the time they will just charge me for dipping a teabag in hot water.
As for diet coke... yeah. When I was younger, I used to drink a lot of regular soda, so for diet soda it's a way for me to cut out "useless calories" from soda and still get the bubbles and caffeine.
I am totally going to call chips "salty salt with salt" now though. XD

I lost 8 kg in my 4 week stay in America, seriously all the food and most drinks made me wanna throw up (even salads ugh); I ended up living off noodles and tuna with coke -__- Fresh food is so rarely fresh.
I had a better time just buying random stuff from supermarkets in Japan while being completely clueless about what it was 'but it looked nice' - always ended up being tasty X3

I live off of udon, seafood and green tea and I can't gain weight for the life of me. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong country (USA). Historically salt consumption in Japan (or at least post-WW2) is very high too, though. I live in Canada now and it's not very different, although at least in America you could get unsweetened tea, here all iced tea comes from a dispenser/bottle like soft drinks and contains just as much sugar.
