The portrait was started in gouache in a sketchbook, but later I realized that this was a bad idea and continued painting in photoshop.

I personally think you should've stuck with gouache until the end. If anything, it would've been a good learning experience about the medium as well as an opportunity to have a baseline the next time you try painting with gouache. ;3
The end result is quite stunning though! Awesmazing work and keep at it! Looking forward to you working with gouache some more!!! 💖💖💖💖💖

Sorry I just saw your comment! Thank you so much for the kind words!!☀️
Maybe I'll touch gouache again someday, when I can afford more professional paints that mix well
I've had these paints since school, and gosh, I've had so much trouble with them!
So far, from the traditional materials, I am more attracted to charcoal and ordinary soft pencils:)
I'm not sure if I should post such sketches here, though. I think people are more interested in polished digital works

Charcoal makes for some really interesting pieces I think. And I've worked with pencils many times over the years. I'm not very good, but I have fun doodling with 2HB pencils that have various amounts of usage to them.
So I say do what you like most first, people will eventually come to you with time and patience. I find greyscale and traditional works to look super awesmazing!
