A doodle I did some time ago of a betta fish. I have an affinity for these guys...they are all over my room. Beautiful creatures...so friendly.

they totally do! most people keep them in the bowls or vases, or those horrid "betta tanks" that are just barely bigger than the cups they come in at the pet store, and don't get to see how wonderful they can be. mine are all spoiled rotten. :/ especially my newest one, named Dante. :/ butt head bites his tail to shreds if i'm not in my room all the time. ;A; he's ruining my nonexistent social life!

AW! Mine are spoiled as well. My little double tail is almost 3 years old now. But my desk buddy is Zuko whom I rescued. He's two this summer and is missing one eye (purchased that way). He sleeps in a hammock and has learned to dance XD It's so adorable!

i don't own any rescues, unless you count my Crowntail, Zidane. i fell in love with him, but didn't have anywhere to put him, or money to buy him. when i went back a month later, he was still there, and had this cottony mold in his cup! i freaked out, complained(and had been complaining about the state of the store since i went in there), so the guy gave him to me. o.0 for free. >.> i called the manager the next day and told her about how gross the store was, and it's been beautiful since. and, i hadn't seen that butthead who was running the store that day since. :p

that's great to hear!!! My friend and I did the same when walmart carried fish out here...they changed the cup sizes but their condition did not get any worse. I was terrible for 'rescuing' fish all the time. I had a pair that I got from the mall. One I got for free because someone had dumped them in each other tanks. The one had completely shredded the other and he was in terrible shape. But amazingly enough the little guy recovered and grew all his fins back, even outlived the one who nearly killed him XD

yeeeeah.... walmart is betta fish hell. i've seen some bad things from them. glad you rescued them. x-X Zidane was my only rescue, and he's a wonderful fish. a tad shy, but that's fine. :3 he adores his fishbowl-turned-cave. <3

aw that's cute <3 I haven't bought a fish since Zuko and he's two years old now. I was told not to buy them anymore because I have 20 when I moved back home XD now I'm down to my five lovely kiddies. I dont know what I'd do without them

my most recent is a female named Caroline. i'm planning on adopting a few rescues soon, too. one will come from Petco, the other... who knows! there's a betta rescue here down south, and i've been waiting for one i can't pass up. :3

oh wow. that's neat. I just go to the pet stores. I've gone to about 20 and rescued from various places. I kind of replace my fish as I go now because I'm not supposed to bring home more. But none have passed away in the last two years which is fantastic but they are all getting old now which is really sad. :<

two isn't that old. that's about middle-aged. four and up is old for bettas. :3 my oldest passed at 4. he was also my first. :3 i'll have to show you pics of my darlings. <3

usually they tell you 1-2 years for betta since in most cases when you buy them they are already a year old. X3 My oldest is my girl right now who is 4 years old. Sadly most of my fish have died horrifc deaths. My first, Vincent, began to inexplicably bleed from the gills on his second birthday

then, that makes Zach 5 when he passed. old man Betta. x3 Cup, my current oldest, is around two, since i've had him almost a year. females, they put out younger, since they don't need time to grow out their fins. Vinny musta had a parasite or something. x-X i've never heard of a betta bleeding from the gills. poor fella. ;A;

the first bettas are always special. i have an ill boy now. :< my stupidity caused him to become poisoned. i was told, all i can do is make him comfortable for the remainder of his life.

Wha happened? I have quite a bit of knowledge regarding illnesses. Never had a poisoned fish before though :<

i had a spare storage bin that was pretty clear, and decided to use it as a tank. little did i know, that it wasn't made to hold liquids for very long. :/ it seeped toxins into his water, and poisoned him, and my yellow one. D: we're keeping an eye on my brother's betta, too, since he was the first one to live in it, but he seems fine.

oh dear..that's a tough one...i lost a fish because the girl who let me adopt him off her put him in a pickle containter :<
