The welcoming embrace of the fire’s heat helps to shield us from the cool air for the time being. But we never know what’s lurking in the wilderness around us. We have already had to fend off several creatures who smelt our blood – creatures of kinds none of us had ever seen before the world collapsed all around us.
This is the price we pay for the overwhelming greed of the few, who always crushed any attempts to rein them in or hold them accountable for their crimes. But they’re far out of sight now – the priority is keeping ourselves alive while we try and find another place we can go. As we warm our paws, we can only turn towards each other for comfort. While few things are worse than being alone in a world that’s gone so bad, sharing each other’s embraces definitely helps. When night falls, we will need it more than ever.
