Sunday, May 7th, 2023 turned out to be a beautiful Spring Day. After a hour long Subway ride, Eric and I arrived at Coney Island, where we enjoyed lunch at Nathan's where I enjoyed a hot dog, fries and a Large Diet Coke. We sat outside where we could see the people heading over to the ballpark, plus observe Navy aircraft fly by. (I spotted 3 V-22 Ospreys flying in a row.)
It was amusing to me at how a seagull's "Pay Attention to me!" call sounded something like a laughing fox.

My New York friend and I were on a tight schedule, and I was limited, mobility wise. I wanted to see the Balto Statue, but I missed it on the way to the Central Park Zoo. I missed the "Alice in wonderland thing completely, but we did drive under the 39th Street Bridge. At least I got to see the stone lions in front of the central library.
Bunches of them! I'm particularly fond of Hummel Brothers, but they're out of New Haven, Connecticut and don't generally ship outside of New England. They have a nice *snap!* when you bite into them and don't taste bland, like baloney. I can also buy 2-1/2 pound packages that let me freeze dinner portions.
Last year I discovered Kiolbassa Polish Smoked Sausage. I had a digital coupon at my local 'big-box' store. No MSG in the ingredients, nothing I couldn't pronounce. EX-PEN-SIVE! So I'm glad I had the coupon. Monday I had another coupon and I was in the store again. Independence Day I steamed up a few of these for my brother and myself. Just Gulden's mustard and jarred sauerkraut on a roll. Little bit of heaven!

Ah, the only real Nathan's. When I left NYC for the first time and tried to order a crab sandwich and they had no clue what I was talking about, I knew I was no longer home.
Funny story, my grandpa used to perform at Nathan Handwerker's upscale restaurant that used to be down the street.
Also, once I somehow ended up behind Joe Strike on the line for the Cyclone last year, but I didn't say anything. :P

Were you at the Mermaid Parade last year? If not... there's an exact clone of you running around with the same Fritz the Cat shirt I know you wore once. That being said, if there was any day to run into someone wearing a Fritz the Cat shirt... it would be that particular day. Also, its true that I think I have the OPPOSITE complex that cats have where their owner puts on a hat and they no longer recognize them. :P
For a second I was wondering “since when there is a Nathan’s in SoCal?”, then I remember you took a flight to the East Coast.
Not a fan of hot dogs, but I’m told that Nathan’s is worth the try. I been trying to get their mustard via Amazon, but it disappears in seconds flat every time is relisted.

When I lived with my family in Queens, I thought it was a treat to go to Nathan's in Coney Island for just a token (albeit a LONG LONG ride on the "F" train end to end). A friend's grandparents lived in the Luna Park apartments (build where Luna Park had burned down), so we'd meet at Nathan's for lunch.
Interesting! As we were leaving Coney Island, I overheard one young rider say in a thick, Brooklyn accent, "@#%$'in Cyclone! I'd burn that old thing down if I could! I guess there's still some upset that still fuels that tension that destroyed the roller coaster the first time. (Or maybe he was a disgruntled "Ironbirds Fan?"
