You know, a person who is that convinced, you can't just talk them out of it. It's not even about reason because someone is wrong, someone is right, and the characters without the omniscience of narrative cannot know for sure which is which.

In a real world scenario it would probably be better to let him go and hope he comes back on his own. Because if someone is convinced, absolutely certain, that they are going to get all their friends killed, there are places to run away to where he can't be followed. Better off to risk letting him go than end up having to dig another grave.z

I've reasoned with suicidal people. In a way I've been doing it most of my life. A sense of purpose, or duty, can bind a person and keep them from the edge, but when that rope is drawing them towards the edge instead, there is precious little you can do.
