Whilst it is uncommon that the icy dragon will prepare fully for combat in his anthro form with actual armour, there are times when it isn't feasible for him to wade into combat in his natural form without risking destroying the surrounding area with out of control magic or even stepping on his allies or those he protects. Combat in this form still brings some risks of magic surging free of his wounds, so when he knows that a fight is coming for him in this form, it is in everyone's interest if he has proper armour. His spear acts as both a favoured weapon of the dragon, as well as a conduit to help control the casting of his magic as a staff - best be careful to keep your distance, a blade of ice can be quick to extend from the spear and double its swing range...
