Thanks! I don't follow the comics, but I wasn't a fan of his look after 2012. I also hear he's a villain now?

Yep.
He is a villain, and now a literal monster. He is now a deformed monstrosity self called God of all mutants. So, yeah, hank Mccoy is dead and gone for good.
