Better to keep what happened secret in case someone else comes looking, nice story V! There was a story by Alan Dean Foster where humanity is described as the galaxies greatest warriors, problem comes when all the fighting has ended and the other races are better than you at more peaceful pursuits, what then?
That's a good point, I like that idea!
True, but the problem is we would not have survived as a species if we weren't aggressive, probably better to try to channel that aggression into other areas. What happens if humanity is peaceful and doesn't know how to fight when another species with no such restraints comes along. Actually there's another story with a similar premise, can't recall the author, humanity is so peaceful that there hasn't been a single murder in over two-hundred years. A survey ship comes across an alien vessel, a psychic on that determines the human ship is unarmed and the humans are peaceful, so easy prey. During the attack one of the crew turns the ship around and vapourises the alien ship using the terran vessels drive as a weapon. He himself tries to say it was an accident and he was only trying to flee but he fools no-one, the aggressive instincts are still there and the aliens are in for one monumental shock!

I'm wondering if we, as humans, could ever live in peace. Goodness knows it has been tried, however, even within those small communities that try, there are passive aggressive tensions. I heard of one Amish man who did not build his barn to the exact plans required by the elders, and he was ostracized from the group.
Humor - my grandmother absolutely hated the Amish because, 'They beat their horses.' For her, born in 1896, this meant a lot. She also worked with a local doctor in the early days and witnessed many bad births form the prevalent in-breeding.

A lot of those utopian societies turn out to just have as much flaws as the rest of us, often more so. And yes I'm certain the Amish have their own issues. Actually in the Freefall comic there is a couple depicted where the husband is from an Amish style community and his wife is techo-futurist who is into transhumanism, that it is shown to be a mutually respectful and loving relationship is part of the reason I like that comic so much.
