Bit of a heads up - the Cats Chapter 12 Pgs 230 to 236 have been removed in preparations for the revamp on the Chapter, following my burnout with its portion of the story as previously stated in the journal a few days ago. Just in case if you wonder where are those Pgs had gone to.
Keroger (Kerogaa) is the 24th Kaiju Robot of the Dark Horror Army Roster, featured as the Monster of the Week in the 20th Episode of the original Anime of Dino Mech Gaiking: "The Hellish Warrior's Revenge!".
_Appearance and Abilities_
Commanded by General Killer, Keroger overall resembles a Frog – indeed its name is derive from the Japanese word Kero, used to portrait the croaking sound of Frogs in Japanese media. It was also among the many oversize Monsters of the Dark Horror Army. It sport a mostly a purple color scheme on its body, with a brown underbelly, with sharp shoulder pads; its head was light brown on the top side, pink at the bottom, with green and black linings on the sides and light pink lips – with two red plates on the top of the head. Through its body, massive rivets give the impression of Green Warts.
Keroger was encapsulated in a statue, and during this period in the episode would fire a red beam from the mouth, though these would later be fire from its eyes – their effect would lock all functions on the Daiku Maryu; it also fire a barrage of missiles from the mouth; from the stomach, it held an Anti Gravity Reflector Mirror derived from the Reverse Death Cross technology, which bounced back Gaiking's Hydro Blazer attack. It's body was also impervious to Gaiking's Paralyzer attack. The monster was capable of Flight.
Keroger is the fifth Kaiju in the series destroyed by Yamagatake with the help of a Zelan Device; the other four been the Monsters built back at Nazca, Peru (Tokage Gata, Saru Gata, Konchuu Gata and Tori Gata), who assisted Jaguar back in Episode 9.
_History_
Traveling through the Kopet Mountains – a chain that runs from Northern Iran all the way into the USSR – explorers find Megalith Ruins in the middle of a gorge, but before they could make investigations of these, the men take cover when a meteorite crashes in the middle of the gorge. Watching from a corner, they see a Frog like statue (Keroger in it) moving on its own, and hooded men coming from the cave kneeling in front of it. The Hooded Men, exile Zelans, are promised by General Killer forgiveness of their crimes and be allow to return home if they help to destroy the Daiku Maryu, which the exiles agree; Killer then uses the power of the statue and kills the Explorers (there's a repetitive gig developing here, me thinks too much).
In Japan, the news of the death of the Explorers makes it to the Daiku Maryu team who prepared to Depart for the Kopet Mountains to investigate, though this is delay since Hachiro and Yamagatake aren't present, the latter having taking to the Bazolar to Tokyo to provide an "upgrade" to allow the Tank to fly with the help of a Veteran of Wartime Airplane construction. After been recalled back to the ship, he shows everyone the Upgrade and their reactions is less enthusiatic, but eventually, after teasing by Sanshiro, Yamagatake tags our hero as his co-pilot for the Bazolar's maiden flight – much to our heroes horror. Arriving on the site of the Megalith, the Bazolar launches with Sanshiro tied to the backseat for the test flight; after much mortification and headaches, Bazolar is able to fly with its contraption and a balloon and enter the cave for exploration.
Once inside, Yamagatake discovers Sanshiro had been free by Hachiro who had sneak on board; the trio enters the main chamber and discover signs of civilization and massive support column, but soon come under attack by the Hooded Men who succeed shutting the Bazolar down – surrounded, Yamagatake and Sanshiro take on them while Hachiro takes his chance to warn the rest of the Team; during the scuffle Yamagatake unmasked one of them, finding out essentially is a skeleton; the duo gets captured and taking to the leader, Prometh, who explains to them that while they hold no ill will to them they are a lure to bring the Daiku Maryu; when asked if he is of the Dark Horror Army, Prometh is confused and identifies as Zelans, thus telling the origin of the Exiles: These were part of the original Zelans who first came to Earth millennia ago, whose goals were investigation and exploration and wanting to help ancient Humanity, but were cast down by Darius, who transformed them into their decrepit form and left them behind. By luring the Daiku Maryu, Prometh and the Exiles hopes of returning home can be realize by collapsing the cave on the Daiku Maryu.
Quick Note: this kinda contradicts the origin story of Darius, who in the narration of the first episode is stated to had been created after the Black Hole first appear, which did NOT existed around the time the Ancient Zelans explored Prehistoric Earth.
Meanwhile, Hachiro having inform everyone of what has befallen our heroes, they rolls the ship out to rescue them, unbeknownst to everyone they have been played into Killer's plans and awakens Keroger from its statue and remains on stand by for the right moment to strike. Once inside the main Chamber, Killer springs his trap and Keroger opens fire with a barrage of missiles into the cave, blasting the entire chamber and killing many of the Exiles, Prometh learning of Killer's had no intention of returning them and breaks contact. With the cave collapsing, the Daiku Maryu moves to protect the two heroes from the debris while Prometh, hurt by the debris and dying, tries to realize them and help them escape, but his action is confused by Fan-Li as a attempt to kill Yamagatake, prompting the Kung Fu Fighter to attack the betrayed Zelan by mistake; he releases Yamagatake who in anger punches him and tries to help Prometh, while Sanshiro and Fan Li return to the ship. In his dying breath, he Gifts Yamagatake with the Anti Gravity Controller, long built by the exiles to allow them return home, though it was never used for it been too small; Prometh then passes away.
Gaiking is launched and the Daiku Maryu configures in its Volution Protect form; the ship begins to spin like a saw and digs its way out with the Mecha behind, while Yamagatake goes to pick Anti Gravity Controller. The ship breaks through and smacks into Keroger, taking off. Realizing the plan had failed, Killer orders the beast to take pursuit and catches to the Daiku Maryu; the ship and Gaiking take a stand against Keroger, who fires its eye beam locking the functions of the ship; Sanshiro tries to use Paralyser, but it has no effect on the monster. Avoiding its missiles, Gaiking slashes its body with Back shredder, then turns around to fire the Hydro Blazer, but the monster deploys its Anti Gravity Reflector Mirror, bouncing the energy attack on Gaiking itself; Yamagatake, now on the Anti Gravity Power Bazolar, comes flying and joins the battle, but his weapons prove ineffective against the Beast defenses as any, specially its energy weapons against the mirror.
Daimojin, deducing the Mirror's power is based on the Reverse Death Cross Phenomenon, suggest to use the Anti-Gravity controller to counter the effect, which Yamagatake opposes to let go of it, but after Midori persuades him, Yamagatake launches an attack straight into the Keroger's mirror finally countering it; the chain reaction destroys the Mirror and Keroger along with it, Sanshiro rescues Bazolar and Yamagatake from crashing.
Later, Sanshiro, Hachiro and Midori thanks a wounded Yamagatake for saving them, but is left mortified to learn his Bazolar is back with the Mechanic who gave him the Flight "upgrades".
