Story

A warm bed within the royal palaces. Renpet, the future Empress of the great sands, lays down her jewelry. Tired and exhausted, the Magpie sat upon her bed. Graced with the finest silk, golden sand and thread woven in between. Luxury beyond measure with her soft pillows filled with the finest feathers in all the realms. Now it is late, her balcony shines the last rays of golden light into her chambers. She lays down still dressed, ready to sleep, closing her weary eyes after a long day of preparing for her coronation.

Consciousness slipping slowly away. Blurred and distorted, the Empress fixed her eyes upon the great kingdom she is soon to be ruling, atop the great residence. A long view upon sandy hills and wide bursting streets of warmth and light, her gaze goes downward to the foot of the palace made from limestone, carved with gracefully placed feathers, wings and depictions of former rulers delicately embellished into the masonry. Painters refresh the colorful wall paintings with murals of colors of all kinds.

At the height of Renpet's power, her dream turns into an oily shadow. Each blink changes perception, growing into an ever-darker red. With a bigger moon, a blood moon in front of the old. Reflecting down upon the kingdom, growing quiet, somber and depraved of everything that is good. Lights fading inside the small huts, with animated bones traveling the streets, hurling torches and death at each living person. Paralyzed, unable to move her limbs, the only thing she can do is watch as her kingdom rots, grain by grain, her power slipping. In fear and despair at how powerless the Mistress is, her eyelids close.

Seconds feel as though they would last a lifetime, giving her time to think about what she witnessed. How the Magpie would change her Empire, to the glory it held in ancient times. How Renpet would grasp death by its roots, ridding the lands of its possible corruption. Determined she opened her eyes, still in her bed, she gazes upwards in divine fervor, her eyes filled with the flame of ambition, a goal now in sight.
