Leviathan as a species, now that's something I haven't seen before!

I am glad you have observed that! Her story, kind of plays on some of the identity politic issues that soo many people tribulate with, this era. In the dragon/elemental-magic/deep emotional state driven universe I have created for her and others; Sarlissa is technically half leviathan and half metal dragon. Lady Leviathan, is the progenitor of all leviathans, and technically can reproduce asexually if she chooses. She is the queen of the seas, embodies vanity and purity, and her pod is with her to support, worship, and enforce her will over the waters of their world. Sarlissa's mother, was part of that pod. She mated with a non leviathan species though (which actually happens A LOT underneath the pod mother's snout). Unions between leviathans and whales, sharks, certain large fish, and other "unpure" water dragons; happen all the time. Some of the young are even fishy enough that they might be able to stay with the pod. The union that created Sarlissa though was what Lady Leviathan considers a blasphemy. Sarlissa's mother was forced to undergo a purity pilgrimage. A horrible journey where a pure leviathan must venture alone, deeply in-land under extremely great peril. Sarlissa's mother abandoned everything: venomously abandoned her lover, repeatedly corrupted and impugned her character/individuality, and ultimately, abandoned Sarlissa, her own daughter. Sarlissa grew up in adversity, eventually meeting Terra, her mate, and is now discovering her place in their world over time. The story is unfinished... but her origins, not that you really asked (I acknowledge) are more or less that.
