In Madeline Miller's novel Circe, she mentions that she favors swine because "the truth is men make terrible pigs." But obviously there are some strong exceptions to that rule.
Quite honestly this would be a pretty good retirement option to warriors after spending ten years fighting. Odysseus' men would certainly have been better off staying around...

In Miller's novel the once human pigs weren't particularly happy with their new species. (I feel bad for the one(s) who jumped off a cliff rather than enjoy a thick, gooshy mud wallow.) Great sequence btw. (Then again I can't remember you doing any less than stellar work.)
BTW again, ever hear of a novel, The Sub: A Study in Witchcraft by Thomas M. Disch? Story of a modern-day Circe. (Although the character's name is Diana) -

TF's aren't described in any detail, but the mood the writer builds is very evocative. (The book is written in the first person, as if Circe herself was telling us her story.) Only pig TFs btw, the other animals who appear are native to her island.
A bit of familiarity with Greek mythology is helpful in enjoying the book, as many people from those myths appear as characters. It's a solid read, so I recommend giving it a shot (especially if you borrow it from the library instead of buying it).
