I'm really curious. How does that portal stuff work mechanically? Like presumably the gate would by necessity have to be connected to another gate in order for it to lead somewhere, it wouldn't just turn on and then become a door to a random unknown spot, right? A portal device that requires a physical gateway to operate would have two points of entry, otherwise it just goes nowhere.
Because it doesn't seem to be purely "magic" magic, it's appears to be some form of science. I guess it depends on what kind of logic the particular universe in question believes in, but if it's all consistent, then yeah there should have to be a portal on the other side already created, in a functional state and powered up for that to work at all.

Ok, joking aside, I know that it's heavily implied her hand is just going to remain it's normal size on the other end of the portal, but the view on the other side makes it look as if the portal is at least the size of a door if not larger on the other end even if that was not the intention. Not like the idea of differently-sized portals changing the size of something has not been done in plenty of other works before.

Also, you would think before sticking your hand in there to test it she would have just like.... put a stick through it or something first.... also this makes me wonder if the portal on the other side is on the ground or just hovering in mid-air now.

I've put some leaves right in the front to show the size better, so basically it has landed/spawned on top of a branch.
I imagine the portals always appear on top of something. If I had the nerves to build my own pseudo science behind all of this, I would, but I also wanna leave stuff up to imagination~
