Garaciaus worked in a UDF station, mostly as a janitor, with a dream to be part of the intergalactic group that saves the universe. But he never considered himself right for that line of work. He was timid, shy, kept to himself and didn't think he'd have any of the skills needed, despite going to school for starship engineering. No-one was hiring, and as such he was stuck in his dead end job, repeatedly repairing the coffee machine.
But his big break would come soon enough.
One day, the Dreadnought landed on the port Garaciaus was stationed at. There were a couple of orders for repairs on the interior of the ship, that Garaciaus would be ordered to take care of, before having to stock a new delivery of corn-cubes and meat-cubes for a shipment in the coming days. Not a day he was looking forward to.
While Garaciaus was working on the repairs in the ship, Tatiana was having an intense argument with her current engineer, who she very promptly fired from his job. The only reason the place was in such a state was the engineer's negligence and Tatiana's fury knew no bounds.
After Garaciaus had repaired the ship, he paged the order that his work was complete and he was moving to the storage sector. But before he left, he noticed in the cafeteria that the coffee machine was dripping, and decided to quickly sneak in and repair it for them, after all, it would only take 5 minutes.
Tatiana's anger to dump her engineer and get back on the star-trail unfortunately took 4 minutes and without really checking who was on board, she took off with Garaciaus still inside. Garaciaus, anxious to self-report, hid in the cafeteria, until Veneca went to pick up a cup of coffee. The gecko's large tail was sticking out from behind a door, and while Veneca was originally going to burst the door down with a pistol in her hands, she noticed the tail shivering. She approached more cautiously, asking if he was meant to be here...
As the ship went on autopilot to Kelgor 7 to put up an ad for a new engineer position, Tatiana went to pick up a coffee. Despite being tired and exhausted, she noticed that the coffee machine itself wasn't dripping, or making that grinding noise like chalk on a board. Once the coffee was made, she looked over to her side and saw Veneca talking with Garaciaus, before walking out the door to go back to the bridge. After a few moments, Tatiana then immediately heel-turned and pointed at the gecko, both of them looking at Tatiana with a bit of confusion.
Tatiana decided to prod Garaciaus for information and Garaciaus explained that it was a mistake and he just wanted to repair the coffee machine before setting out. That's when Tatiana asked where the rest of his engineers went, to which he said he was the only one who was sent in to repair. Tatiana eyed up Garaciaus for a bit, before giving a smirk.
"You know, a ship could use an efficient repairman like yourself. And a slot just opened up. How would you like to join my crew so I don't have to waste this fuel on getting to Kelgor?"
Veneca would've called Tatiana out on not even asking for an ID from a stowaway before making this offer, but given Tatiana's impulsive nature and the conversation her and Garaciaus had already had prior, she was willing to let it slide this time.
Garaciaus however, was both nervous and ecstatic, and wasn't sure which emotion to display, so there was a sort-of ugly blend of both as he agreed to the offer.
"Tell me son, what's your name?"
"Garaciaus."
