Reset [Happiness vs Contentment]
She always enjoyed Winter in the city. The streets seemed less noisy, and unbearable heat didn't radiate from the metal and glass buildings as it did during Summer and even the waning days of Spring. Such was the burden of living in a large southern city. Her shoulders rolled in the sleeves of her old letter jacket, jostling the headphones around her neck to a more comfortable position, momentarily making the rock 'n' roll that flowed out of them seem louder before she placed her hands back in her pockets and concentrated on moving through the opposing line of pedestrians.
"Wielder!" a familiar voice called over the bustle of the park and the slight howling of a crisp breeze.
Her alert, rounded ear rotated back, and her head followed. A quick smile ran across her muzzle as she saw the small shiba inu hybrid racing up towards her, waving enthusiastically. Wielder stood in the moving sea of people, both waiting for the smaller canine mix and blocking her from the uncaring traffic that would surely mow her down if she wasn't attentive.
"What are you doing without a coat or at least a hoodie, Midi?" Wielder admonished gently. "You're gonna get sick. You're too damn small to be out here in this weather without something warm."
"Hey! I'm part shiba, you know!" yipped the ferret/shibi cross, a pout running across her pink lips, her pink nose twitching in defiance. "I'm just fine with a long-sleeved shirt on!"
Just as she tried to inform Wielder of her tolerance of cold weather, she felt a shiver run from her white toes up to the white and lime colored tips of her ears. She tried not to look as weak as she felt in front of the timber wolf, slowly crossing her arms across her chest while she cursed what she had thought was a fairly thick shirt.
A blanket of heat overlapped her suddenly, and her ears pinned back when she felt the material being adjusted around her shoulders. Looking up, she saw the arrogant smirk of the wolf warmly chiding her as she chuckled. "Well, little brush dog," she quipped sarcastically, "how about you wear my jacket just to set my mind at ease?"
"Such a gentleman, Wielder," muttered Midi, furrowing her eyebrows at her friend, trying to hide the blush that naturally came to her face during any act of kindness that was given to her. Still, she gratefully shoved her arms into the thick sleeves that still held Wielder's warmth and adjusted them about her elbows so that the long arms wouldn't swallow her hands whole.
"Isn't it about time for your class?" asked Wielder, offering the smaller young woman her left arm, a gesture that Midi readily accepted. Leading with her right leg as though she were putting a dog into a heel, Wielder began guiding the both of them into the heart of the city, towards the downtown bus she knew Midi would have to get on even without the answer to her question.
"Yeah," Midi answered under a bored sigh. "Can't wait for these damn core classes to be over and done with." Wielder nodded to her and met her purple gaze out of the corner of her eye and trained one of her prick ears on the shiba while the other paid attention to the sounds of the city around them.
"I feel ya there."
"Wielder? Why don't you go back to school?" she asked quietly, her meek voice almost being consumed by the beeping horns that chased them over the white perpendicular lines of a crosswalk. Once they were safely on the opposing block, she continued, "Are you going to be content to work at a comic book store or on an assembly line for the rest of your life?" Midi hoped she hadn't insulted her friend, all of a sudden slowing her footsteps in a dejected manner.
"I don't mind menial work," answered the wolf through a smile. "My family's been blue collar for generations. Besides, I hate student debt. Whether I got a degree or not, I'd be payin' that off for the rest of my life. Might as well do it in a t-shirt instead of a suit and tie."
Midi stumbled a bit when she felt the shoulder of an uncaring and unaware stranger shove into her and was glad to be attached to Wielder when she felt the wolf's own posture steady hers.
"Watch out, you dickhole!" shouted the wolf through a snarl before shrugging stiffly. Looking down at Midi, she softened her expression, her ears turning out to the sides apologetically when she remembered how easily startled the younger girl could be. "You alright?"
Midi nodded and smiled demurely as she felt the gentle tug of Wielder's continued steps pulling at her arm. As they neared the bus station, she coughed slightly, calling the attention of her friend. "Sooooo, you seeing anyone?" asked Midi, using a sing-song voice. "It's been awhile...you know..."
"Nah," Wielder replied gruffly but through a friendly grin. "Tired of trying to find happiness in someone else. Contentment is enough for me. Happiness is for Meg Ryan And Tom Hanks movies."
"You really believe that?"
"Well, for me it is," stated the wolf matter-of-factly. Her large paws stopped in front of the bus stop sign, waiting with Midi for the crowded line of passengers to disembark before she took her left hand out of her pocket, breaking the link between her and the shiba mix. "Well, go on, get to class. I gotta get to work."
"What about your jacket?!" Midi half laughed, half called.
"Keep it for now," answered Wielder, turning her back to the bus and waving over her shoulder. "Make your friends think you got a handsome older boyfriend or somethin'. I'll see you soon anyway."
The wolf's ears twitched to the sound of the downtown bus roaring passed her, and she waved to the shiba inu as she leaned out of the window and called, "How about I tell my friends I have a handsome older girlfriend instead?!"
Wielder shook her head as she watched the bus turn to the right, ferrying Midi towards the community college a few miles away. Her feet picked up the pace, making up for the time her diversion with Midi had taken from her path. She walked to the beat of the songs coming from her MP3 player and to the beat of her own drum. She thought about how nice it was to walk in whatever direction she wanted without someone else's plans interfering. Her life might have been simple and lackluster to some, but she was content.
Still, Midi's question from earlier left her wondering...how long had it been since she'd last been truly happy? Though they were similes, Content and Happy, they're connotations were completely different from their denotations. The fact was it had been a while since she'd been truly happy.
This is what happens when Wielder takes a break from a commission and reads too much manga in one sitting. I drawz animu lookin' Midi and Wieldurrrrrr. Anywho did this for midikins because her birfday is next month, and I figured I'd try to sketch something up and maybe color it for her in the near future. Also done because a few of you liked the original "Reset" piece here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4569139/ and had expressed interest in me continuing it. So, here you have Midi and Wielder...who will be eventually walking through a city part...on a blustery, cold day.
Wielder is mine.
Midi belongs to midikins.

I think what makes this so adorable, both in the drawrang and the writang, is that it's so realistic....in that I can practically see this happening right in front of me.
Maybe it's because I'm from down south and the weather is a lot like it's depicted in this scene. << Half frozen. Or maybe it's because you're an amazing artist and writer....yeah that must be it. ;)
Also, GWARH I love the wind in their hair. 8D

I'm really trying to write and draw the Reset stuff to make it seem as though it could all really happen to people who we all know. Obviously, the idea of reincarnation is there from the first piece, but, for the most part, it's just going to be a story about real life type situations.
God girl...I LIVE for fall and winter down here in Georgia. Always have! I'm honored you like my writing and artz. I am a big fan of yours!
I have a think with wind in hair...

It's turning out super epic so far. 8DD I love the concept and the mixture of a normal(ish) and a sci-fi universe mixed into one. Fuggin EPIC. 8D Can't wait to see what happens NEEEXT. 8B FF.
Spring and late fall are the greatest down here. <3 Though it is super unpredictable. Your art is so INSPIRING. 8D And daw thank you. 83
Its because it looks like post-sex hair. |3

I was hoping you'd continue your "Reset" theme, and I'm glad you chose to.
Your anime style is certainly interesting. Although I can't quite tell the difference in the clothing, I do see the change in how you drew their hair and faces. Wielder looks very pensive and cautiously content, while I can just hear Midi saying, "Soooo, you seeing anyone?"
And on that note, you still manage to capture the super-effective expressions and body poses that tell much of the story on their own.
As for the story itself, again, great job. All the little descriptive details of what they're wearing and little tidbits like how easily startled Midi could be really complete the picture.
Well done as always. I have no doubt you will continue to impress and amaze.
Cheers!

Enough folks seemed interested in the idea of the Reset storyline, and we all know that ObiWan/Wielder will have an eventual end. Not going to fuck with the canon THAT much. Have to do something with this adorable little dynamic, don't we?
Wielder's oblivious in every storyline I write, lol. She's content, but she probably isn't aware enough to know realize Midi MIGHT be flirting with her.
Thanks so much, man, I really appreciate it, as always.
