Spring break had arrived. Remy and his friends were excited to have a week off from school.
Saturday arrived and Remy was relaxing at home.
There was a knock at the door, and he got up to answer it. Richard was there along with bradley, Kyle and Scott.
"What are you guys doing here?" he asked.
"Well," said Richard, " I kinda told them about the beagle we saw on Easter and they wanted me to show them where it emerged in your yard. You don't have to, but we thought it would be nice if we could take a look."
Remy wasn't sure about going out with them, but he made up his mind and agreed to show them.
They went out into the yard towards the woods.
"So," said Kyle, "Where did you say you saw this beagle?"
Remy pointed to the woods behind his yard. "Over there."
"He could be hiding back there," said Scott.
"So what are we waiting for?" asked Bradley. "Let's go check it out."
Richard smiled and held out his arm. "Lead on, Remy."
"What?" Remy was surprised.
"Well, it's your yard," said Richard. "And you're the one who spotted him, so you're the leader in this search."
Remy's face lit up and his excitement flared up. It would be a privilege to lead his friends in search of the beagle.
He saluted. "I shall try to be worthy of my post. Onward!"
He proudly marched towards the backwoods with his friends following along. They marched steadily in single file into the wooded vastness that spread out before them.
They didn't want to go too deep into the woods. If they didn't find the beagle there, they would turn around and head back in the direction it was going.
Remy and his friends were in high spirits as they marched deeper into the woods. They came across a small river. They skipped merrily over the stones lodged in the flowing current.
After reaching the other side of the river, They continued onward. Remy could hear the wind gently blowing. He could smell the pine trees up ahead of him. He looked up and saw a tree that reminded him of a giant fork. He found it rather strange looking.
Suddenly Remy picked up on the beagle's scent. He could tell they were getting closer. He signaled his friends onward and led them further down the path.
