I recognized the character and had been wracking my brain trying to remember which studio and which short it came from. I knew it wasn't one of the proto WB Bugs Bunny didn't have that early WB vibe. I was going down the Fleischer/Paramount rabbit hole. 'Hare' was the only thing that came to mind. Thanks for the link and putting my mind to rest.

Very strange: even though the above link says "film" and was copied directly from the cartoon's Wikipedia page, the link for some reason goes to the fable's Wiki page. You can get to the 'toon's page by clicking on the "disambigugation" link at the page top - sorry for the confuzilication.
