Now that I got the cliff notes down, let me give you the full details.
Let us start at the beginning, during which the world (whose name was lost to the Void) had a strict duo-gender society. It was more of a authoritarian utopia, in which the world was carefully monitored in every aspect of life. And those who were not was quickly corrected to be so.
At the time, there was two religions, the Church of the Night and the Church of the Day, and both were equally powerful in their spheres of influence. And with those two Churches, there were, of course, two main deities: Sh'Tol for the Day and Mor'Chai for the night.
No records exist for why or how the War of the Day and the Night started, but there is some folklore stating that the Absolute of Evil came to corrupt them and fill them with envy. Thus starting the beginning of the world's end.
Mid-way through the war, Mor'Chai personally blessed five of his most faithful lieutenants with an aspect of his power as a effort to gain the upper hand. One of them betrayed him and the Church. (We'll talk about him at a later post.) In retaliation, the remaining Constructs devised a plan to bring him to heel, only for the plan to go horribly awry and kill off/disfigure the world's population. Mor'Chai, horrified by the actions, helped an upcoming deity, The Great Father, to seal himself and the constructs away for millennia.
However, five hundred years later, the Absolute of Chaos came forth and unsealed Mor'Chai. The elemental was rightfully angry at that, but he wrongly assumed that The Great Father released him and thus retaliated. During that time, a passer-by befriended Mor'Chai and helped him to ease his anger and grief of a world long gone. You see, Mor'Chai, being of the Night, was assumed to represent the evilness of humankind: selfishness, hatred, greed, etc. Having a friend selflessly help him (and ultimately sacrifice himself in the process) had him snap out of his fugue. He petitioned The Great Father to immortalize his friend to be a deity in his own right, and the godling acquiesced.
As time passed, he and the Father became close friends, not only for their experiences but also of other information that will be known later on.
Fun Fact: When Mor'Chai became a fully fledged deity, the bird form came quite naturally.
