I was taking the dark cloud for the stress from the overwhelming expectations (which I reckon is similar). I didn't took rock directly as a debt, but as any kind of impediment in attempt to do something (you know, "builds character" etc.). And like finding the weapon was any kind of tasks that would fall under "settle down" umbrella. It's cool to see how you intended those ideas.
I reckon that answers what I was curious about. So the person off-screen in the first page wasn't your character setting them on the task, but someone else. More like "someone", some generic person.
