Sitting in his office, Zach rubbed his eyes as he watched the numbers and letters fly past him, his poor mouse wheel feeling like it was spinning freely while double and triple checking the code. Standing up as he finally hit submit, the scientist walked towards the nearby window, pressing a button below the sill.
Sitting inside the small room was what appeared to be a large mannequin form, hooked up to a bunch of wires. The sparse room had no furniture inside of it save for a simple table the mannequin was sitting on. Flicking a small switch, some lights sparked on as the mannequin started to move and twitch, the wires holding it in place going taut.
“Alright M.O.M., let’s see if we can get something up and running..”
Flipping a few more switches, he grinned as the walls inside the room started to shift and change, their color palette shifting as if it were going through a color wheel and landing on a soft pink color. The floor started doing the same, landing on a soft cream colored carpeting. The computer in front of him flashed a loading bar; Nursery.exe was nearly complete.
He was working on a revolutionary technology; hard light virtual reality that theoretically could make anything they wanted into a reality! That was the theory at least. Time after time in practice however, there were many different problems that never made it off the ground to the point where he found himself nearly ostracized and pushed out of the scientific community.
"I'll show them all I was right.. then they'll see..”
The mannequin started to writhe and twist as it seemed to grow limbs, a head, fully starting to take shape until it landed on the beautiful form of a woman with long brown hair, beautiful chocolate eyes, standing tall at nearly 6 feet in height.
A small alarm started to sound on the computer, Zach tearing his eyes away from the beauty as he clicked a few buttons.
'Baby.exe is having trouble loading, please check the wire connection before continuing.'
Giving a heavy sigh he stood up, making sure to pause the process as he made his way into the flickering form of the room. The door closed behind him with a bit of force; unfortunately for Zach, as brilliant as the man was, he failed to notice his morning coffee cup fall off the shelf he had set it on, knocking into the keyboard and restarting the process.
Zach meanwhile was in the process of reconnecting wires and grumbling to himself about the hell of wire management. As he stood up, the young man looked around only to find himself in seemingly a totally new location. The door to the room was gone and in its place a pile of stuffed animals, a large table standing before him that once held the mannequin, though what was now a rather clear changing table. The padded top felt soft and cool against his fingers.
“Well at the very least I know that the temperature sensors work. The scent ones seem to work as well judging by the smell of powder in the air.. but where’s-”
He stopped mid sentence, feeling a hand placed on his shoulder. Turning a bit he saw a figure towering over him, the beautiful woman the mannequin had taken the form of prior. She smiled down at the man, getting a bit of a confused look on her face as she studied him over.
“Hmm.. well hello there little cutie~ It's a good thing Mommy found you, you would’ve made quite the mess dressed like that! Let’s get you into something much more appropriate!”
Feeling himself lifted into her arms, Zach was elated; his experiment had worked! The sights, the smells, the touch, all of it felt as real as can be! When he got out.. which.. hm.. how was he going to do that? Feeling his shirt and lab coat removed, he looked down seeing the large woman taking his pants and underwear down, causing him to shiver with the temperature change.
The woman, much like a machine, worked efficiently to dress the baby. Testing her temperature sensors and finding it to be a warm day, Zach soon found himself laying on top of the cushioned diaper, the white simple design and bright yellow tapes brought up, followed by an orange t-shirt.
Feeling himself sat up, he found himself carried over to a corner of the room and settled into a large blue highchair. He was curious to see what the woman would do, knowing they were out of food and drinks.
She stopped for a second, opening the door to the cupboard and tilted her head. Her eyes seemed to glaze over before a robotic voice spoke up.
"Initializing hypothetical mode. Constructing food for infant level 2."
Forming into existence like the rest of the room, jar upon jar of baby food appeared inside. Zach stared wide eyed as he saw the algorithms he put into place work; my God, it could theoretically replicate food as real as anything in the real world!
She produced a spoon, forming it out of blue coding, scooping up out of one of the jars as she made airplane noises, bringing it over to his mouth. Feeling the slick, warm mush slide into his mouth, he blinked while swallowing it. It tasted like.. peas. He realized of course that the virtual reality would tell him this info, this mash doesn't truly exist. He knew that when it was put in his mouth, the computer was telling his brain that it was juicy and maybe even delicious.
Whether he'd actually get nutrients from it however, he would have to test.. if he could get out of here.. the horror was only now starting to set in that if it could replicate food, then there was a chance that it could just perpetually keep him here forever.
Shortly after the jars emptied, Zach found himself with a bottle of formula plunked right past his lips, they covered in a mess of mush all over his cheeks. It was curiously sweet, the taste lingering in his mouth as his mind raced. These sensations, they couldn’t be real could they? Was this all data, was it truly real?
While his computer plugged the data away, the mannequin used her connections to search up many different outfits for her baby. He would have plenty of time to get used to his new programming and be mesmerized by it, after all, he was going to be spending quite a lot of time here with his M.O.M. unit.
