Spirituality teaches to turn away from selfish desires and align our lives with the divine. The more meditative we are, the less likely it is that we make selfish choices in our lives. I make an example. When I was a child, I dreamed of owning a pet cat. But I had a specific concept of how the cat should look like. I chose inbetween the different cat races and decided which cat type I found the most beautiful and dreamed of owning this type of cat as a pet. But the less selfish and more compassionate option would be to chose a simple cat from an animal shelter, instead of an expensive cat from a breeder just because its fur has a more beautiful appearance. It's a part of our human nature that our minds are superficial and judgemental. But when we become more meditative, our minds become more silent. In meditation, we "kill" our minds so to say. The way how we make our decisions in life change. We become more altruistic. This is a part of our spiritual transformation. So on the picture, I drew an expensive, beautiful cat on the left side to represent our egoistic mind, and on the right side, I drew an "ugly" cat from an animal shelter that represents our altruistic, divine side (our inner buddha).
