Neat concept, neat creatures!
Arthur C. Clarke wrote a story about atmospheric beasts on Jupiter ("A Meeting With Medusa"), and before that, Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about creatures like these on Earth ("The Horror of the Heights").
I'd like to think that such things exist right now, *somewhere* in the universe.
