Ok so I was resisting the urge to draw ANY Snicket characters as dogs (it takes me a while to give in, I must admit to having a lot a shame about it, lol), but months and months ago now I had a dream where Count Olaf was a Borzoi, and it worked so damn well I wanted to get it on paper so bad, and I'm pretty sure that's how I ended up giving in and doing everyone else as dogs, too.
What I saw in my dream was amazing. I've been struggling to make it work in practice. This is close? Maybe? It was more about his bony ass body lol. It just worked so WELL. AAAAA

OHHH my gosh I do love when the main page is helpful like that!! Maybe a year and a half ago I finally decided to re-read the ones I had read years ago, and then ALSO finally go forward and finish the whole series, and it's been brainrot for me ever since!! And then I found out about the prequels and they absolutely stole my heart and won't let go! Aaaaa!!! AND I'm so used to people liking these dogs because they are dogs, no one knows who they are, really, so THANK YOU FOR MAGICALLY FINDING THEM!! ❤❤❤
It's more based on the illustrations, but they made him look a lot like those in the movie, so I suppose it's a little of both! Also HEAVY, HEAVY reference from the Netflix version! This was my moodboard: https://twitter.com/NyaasuNekoban/s.....257582593?s=20
Very cool! The hair and makeup team are doing their best, but Neil Patrick Harris Count Olaf looks... off. Like he's a little too young or something. Jim Carrey on the other hand, was quite literally made to play that character! And Olaf's "characters" as well, I might add..
I have only seen the movie twice! Haha, so I'm not as familiar with it, I guess. I'm personally not super fond of it, although I can't really put my finger on why! But you're right about NPH, as an Olaf, he's very charming, which I was fine with because I was laughing, but then revisiting the books after seeing the Netflix one, I realized I should never ever find Olaf "charming", so probably that's a bad thing. And goes along with what you're saying for sure! Although I'm thinking more of his voice than his looks, but both things might be a little too soft!
I think one thing that might help to even it out is, Olaf should be (from what I understand, anyway?) much younger than he looks, I think he's just supposed to have aged terribly. So it might be alright. But, there is still something a bit too charming for book-accuracy, either way!
Edit: Oh, as far as voice goes, Tim Curry's Olaf in the audio books wins for SURE, omggg

Hehe, thank you! I started with Lemony (All the Wrong Questions version) and I was putting it on the ankle, but then I'd have to figure out ways to hide it. At one point I was randomly reminded of the beagles that are rescued from medical labs and their ear tattoos, and I was like "AHA!" and I've done it that way every since! 😂
