So a while ago I made an insect character... I'm not sure if I posted it on here or not.
This thing is a blind cave mantis, and it uses its fanlike upper arms to probe out the area it comes upon, that can easily be tucked under a shield if something nasty comes along. It's a timid race, though it has two venom claws atop its upper arms. It can't fly, its wings are more of an evolutionary remainder from a time before they turned into 7 foot tall things.
They are sentient as a race, though their life stages are quite odd. This goes for all insect races on their planet, except for the "hive" races. When they're mere grubs, they're taken care of by older members of society, though they're considered more of an endangered animal a than a fellow member of society. Once they turn into a young adult after the metamorphosis, their minds are stuck in an intense mating trance for one year. During that time, their caretakers will have no choice but to release them or face utter aggression. From there on, the young adult travels into the wild to look for a female. Fertile females of any race are permanently feral, and usually eat the male mate as food for her eggs. If the male survives this trial, he will fall from the trance and enter the advanced technological and cultural society.
So basically the society is run by male insects :o Well no okay I lied.
Hive queens are pretty much like Earth queens, and are taken care of by a small army of entranced sterile females. Be they ants, bees, or some other insect, the same law applies to the workers. They experience a year of trance, then they're free to leave. The sterile females are generally avoided by the men unfairly, though, due to their natural fear of women.
So basically if you're a male with a wife instead of a husband you're pretty crazy. WACKY, AIN'T IT?!
I totally don't blame you if you didn't read this.

I had a joke going about that's what Ray Charles looked like under those glasses, and it sounded way better than this potentially racist relating of what could've been a funny but wasn't (<_<)
However, I like this for multiple reasons, numero uno: Luv bugs, insects and some arachnids rock my socks. Dos: Reminds me of the GRASS ASSASSIN from an old game, and # People making their own creatures, creativity means the human race isn't screwed yet =/
Ooo, also had a good'n about homosexual insects getting burned out on straight sex....yep, I can't wait a day after I get an idea to comment xd
