Original Species: Mud Crown Neobehemoth
The Mud Crown Neobehemoth is a recently discovered species of Arcadian Behemoths. Scholars often refer to them as simply "Mud Crowns". In recent years, this species has had an increasingly noticeable effect on the dryer areas of the continent.
These large animals can reach an excess of 10 tones and are prone to aggression, especially if they perceive something as a threat. they typically live in groups of around 10 to 20 individuals, consisting of one dominant male, his females, and their offspring. Young males are typically chased away by the herd leader once they get close to sexual maturity (at around 10 years of age). Young females meet a similar fate, though in their case, it's the adult females that chase them away (also around the same age as the males). Due to their fairly large size and hostile nature, few predators dare to attack these beasts.
Being a large, semi-aquatic mammal (reminiscent both in lifestyle and demeanor of a hippopotamus), the Mud Crown Neobehemoth requires a watery environment, typically inhabiting slow-flowing rivers and lakes. In order to maintain its home, it uses the crown-like, bony structure on the top of its head to excavate mud and muck from any pool of water it inhabits. This behavior goes as far as to have this particular species of Neobehemoth actively dig up new waterways, especially when the number of individuals in one particular lake or river becomes too big.
It is this exact behavior that has been slowly affecting the environment in the central part of Arcadia. Several small herds of Mud Crowns have been slowly expanding the reach of several rivers, causing them to reach far beyond their original boundaries. As a result of that and the occasional uncovering of Water Stones (a particular magical mineral, similar to Raw Mana Crystals, with condensative properties) has led to the gradual de-aridification of the lands within these Neobehemoth's natural range and beyond.
