On a related note, the situation is similar to a story my high school chemistry teacher told my class about a decent amount of nitrogen triiodide: it had been a project that was drying out on filter paper supported by a ring stand, and she needed to make space on the bench the stand was sitting on. She budged the stand holding it without any further thought and suddenly her ears started ringing and there was a purple cloud in front of her. Thankfully, she kept her hearing, and she kept a wary eye on any future preparations of that dastardly compound.

I've never had this happen to me.
