Quite a lot happened in March, so here are some of the things:
Changes to Patreon
1) Fewer Uploads
If you did not catch it, I will be ending daily uploads of content. Don’t be alarmed to seeing fewer posts.
This does NOT mean I’m necessarily doing less art. I’ll still be doing at least the same amount as in March. What changes is that there will be fewer sketches and more finished pieces. The average finished picture I produce now days takes about the same amount of time as 6-8 sketches.
The change is intended to help me focus on my commission queue!
2) Personal Doodles
I do personal doodles for myself now and then. These are usually done on the same quarter page papers as any other picture I do. Very few of them ever see the public eye due to lack of time to finish them.
I’m thinking I will start doing these doodles on the same blue paper sheets as the Patreon doodles. Then at the end of the month, if I have full pages of them they will be posted with the rest of the Patron doodles.
This only affects the doodles of my own characters I do intended for myself; it does NOT include random doodles I do for other people, especially of their own characters. I will still do those on their own quarter pages.
3) Considering New Compression Options
I discovered this month that Patreon has maximum file size limits which I hit. I’m thinking I will look into different file compression methods than the Windows default. But don’t worry, whatever I decide to go with I will make sure there is still a free method of decompressing them! And if I can’t find one, then I may just do Dropbox links.
I would just jump to Dropbox links for Zip files but better compression would be nice to save on my own storage space. I don’t ever delete anything but with the larger files I do now, I could start flirting with space issues months from now. >.>’
Building News
The big thing is I finally have a tenant for my vacant space. It is 95% certain. I have the leased signed for 3 years and a deposit.
I still have some finishing touches I still need to do on the renovations but it is essentially over now with the vacant side, thus marking the end of Phase 1 of the building work.
Now comes the next phase: addressing the new roof. Last I was quoted the price would be $60,000. That price could be more now based on rising material costs.
As of right now, I have $35,000 available in credit/loans. I still have to find a way to get the rest of the money. After filing my taxes, I may have more options available in taking out new bank loans and I will probably start talking to banks in April/May. Tax returns are a big thing banks look at for issuing loans.
The roof work interestingly is going to have some delays from happening. The roofing companies I have talked can’t get me in until at least July. So in the meantime, I’ll have to work to pile up money and spend time doing any patching that has to be done.
Phase 2 I expect to take as much of my time as Phase 1 did on a month to month basis, so this part of my work schedule I won’t see relief on.
And after Phase 2 will be Phase 3, which is redoing a lot in the back of the building to address water pooling against the building and ruining the foundation. Thankfully this is not as severe time sensitive, but still need to be addressed as soon as possible.
I had hoped my workload would start to drop in the summer, but as feared, it looks like this will carry on through the rest of the year.
My Thanks
Thank you all for supporting me; I deeply appreciate it from the bottom of my heart! I hope what I do helps put a smile on your face and brighten your day in these dark times we life in.
