Inspirations
Myself - I am clearly my biggest source of inspiration! All jokes aside, like Marcel, I am a chef who faces the pressures of working in a kitchen environment. Unlike Marcel, I wouldn't say that I have an obsessive personality, but rather relieves my stresses in other ways. I mostly used a mouse fursona because a clairvoyant a few years back said that my spirit animal was a mouse, and it's been that way ever since when first creating this character.
Marco Pierre White - an absolute cooking hero of mine, and I was very lucky to have been taught by him, albeit on one occasion. I took Marcel's often gritty personality from White, who does have this aura of coldness to him, despite also being brilliant at what he does.
Bojack Horseman (Bojack Horseman) - I took many of Marcel's egregious sides of his personality from Bojack. Honestly, I've never related more to a character like Bojack in so many ways, from his selfishness to slight narcissism, and after watching the series, I found that I did not want to be much like that anymore. I feel like Marcel would be self destructive in so many ways and would find other things to distract him from his own slef-loathing, hence why Bojack continues to be an inspiration for Marcel.
Remy (Ratatouille) - he's a rat chef, what more is there to say?
Carl Casper (Chef) - one of my favourite films of all time, it was the film that made me appreciate so much of what I do day to day. I love Carl's inspiration and passion for cooking throughout the film, and I feel that Marcel would still have that passion for cooking, even if it nearly kills him.
Jerry Seinfeld (Seinfeld) - my all time favourite sitcom, and I've always liked Jerry's cynical nature in a world where he has George as a best friend and Elaine as his on and off girlfriend, but also being likeable despite his short comings. I initially wanted Marcel to have Jerry's haircut, but never made it into the final design for him.
