Original Species: Rhogulox
The Rhogulox is yet another member of the Elysian tapirs. This creature evolved to fill in the niche of a high browser, feeding on leaves and twigs from trees. In areas where the Lagolanka are known to live, the Rhogulox is often seen competing with them for resources. Usually, you won't see these two species coexisting in the same environment.
The Rhogulox possesses a number of unusual physical features. Unlike most other tapirs, its body is covered with thick, leathery, and bumpy plates, somewhat reminiscent of those found on Earth's Indian rhinoceros. These plates provide ample protection against Golden Apes, Tyrannosaurs, and other predators that may want to attack it.
The other odd feature, and what makes this creature truly unique among Elysian tapirs, are the pale-purple skin flaps that grow out of its throat. Since this feature can be found in both males and females of the species, it is theorized that the skin flaps serve as some form of defense against predators, specifically to prevent the crushing of the windpipe. The skin there is surprisingly thick and rubbery, which makes it really hard for most predators to properly bite down on the otherwise unprotected throat.
