Fenghuang, or 鳳凰, is what's considered the "Asian phoenix" by the Western world. However, Fenghuang is not at all like the phoenix of Egyptian and Babylonian origins. Not associated with fire or renewal, but instead the union of Yin and Yang, Fenghuang has played a role as a symbol in traditional wedding rituals across China, Japan, and their offshoots, for many centuries.
Depicted here, is a more traditional view of Fenghuang with the neck of a snake, the back of a turtle, the legs of a stag, and the tail of a peacock.
