Hehe, I can see why. If I were going for a weapon, I'd have probably gone for something a bit bigger. Probably one of the double bit throwing axes. But I simply wanted an Axe to fit in my bad, for camping and other outdoor activities. I have no intention of ever taking this to another person in anger...I'm more than capable of that WITHOUT a weapon.
Aye, I know what you mean. I've been trained to use various different firearms, and despite being nearly a decade since I've touched one...I can still remember how to shoot with an SA80, clear jams, and strip an clean it. I don't think those skills will ever be forgotten totally.
We used to play a game. Totally frowned upon these days most likely. Place a 2 pence peice on the target, and plink that sucker off. Best I managed was at 300 yards. at 500 I could hit a man sized target, but I knew people who could hit one at 600 or more yards. And that was just using the SA80. Put an LSW in my paws and I could really reach out and touch ya...
Also a pretty decent shot with a bow too. Won a few competitions...enjoyed showing up those folks who brought super crazy accurate bows with stabilizers and sights ad the latest widgets and gadgets by out-shooting them with a simple revurve, not even using a sight! I couldn't even afford a wrist strap to keep it attached to my paw...but I was an amazing shot ^^
I was about to start wondering why it was so nice when I saw the head to handle connection. That's never coming off. The rest of it looks like an ordanary hatchet. I certainly pay anywhere near $80 for it. $80 ax here would have to be dark walnut handle and would need to be diamond tipped on both ends of the ax as we often use the back as a hammer. When I chop wood, I much prefer a heavy splitting maul. The one I use is full steel with a rubber gripper. It is the heaviest model ever made. A full 35 pounds. Hit a zombie with something like that and the zombie will just fall apart.
Aye. If I were doing serious log splitting for home use, I'd be getting a damned huge Maul. But this is just for camping use, its going in an already slightly overloaded ruck, so weight and size are a bit of an issue and would prohibit me from carrying a Maul. Perhaps when I eventually get my nice comfy log cabin in the middle of nowhere....I'll get me one. But for now, this Axe is perfect for my needs.
