The cyclops is an evolutionary offshoot of human being. In their natural habitat, the sense of smell is must more useful than the sense of sight. Because of this, their face developed a bit inverted. Their eyes were removed over time, the socket placed where the nose usually lies in most humans. Likewise, the nose got flipped and then greatly enlarged to make use of the new space.

With such a highly developed sense of smell, the cyclops is capable of smelling the approach of rocs, dragons, and the occasional approaching unruly drunk. Knowing the information of an approaching danger, they merely attempt to hide in any place they can find until the danger leaves the area.
