Chapter 19 of Oseille, in which Alana and Deirdre have words, and Deirdre gives Alana a new assignment.
This was the chapter that really made me fall in love with Ms. Alana. It's here that she became a real person to me.

Oh yes, I can quite see why you liked Alana in this chapter. She's really got me on her side now, after what you'll recall I found a rather discomfiting first appearance. And it seems to me that Deirdre is not doing a tremendous job of convincing herself that "this time, things would be different". I wonder...
Oh good. I admit that, when I started writing this story, I wasn't entirely certain which way to go with Alana. But she just kept making me like her more and more and eventually I decided she had to be someone worth siding with. She was rather alarming in her first appearance, but when you're all by yourself in a potentially hostile city I'd imagine that you'd want them to be a little bit intimidated, too. At least if you're used to thinking in military terms, as Alana is.
As for Deidre, well all I'll say here is that, for all her faults, she at least means well. But you'll have to read on to see what happens.
