For a few years the only real artwork I was doing was making maps for the TRPGs that I was GMing. Unfortunately, with COVID the campaign kind of came to an end, but I'm still pretty proud of the work I did on these.
First map that I put together for my tabletop game. Conceptually the campaign concept is that there is a second world where all of the myths and legends are at least partially true. As such I used the names of many mythological places and developed them into full kingdoms that usually have some relevance to the myths that they are based on. The implication being that humans have visited these places in the past, but were only able to communicate back a small portion of what actually was there.
Hy-Brasil became the old kingdom of the Selkie within the campaign world. Or at least it was their kingdom until it was destroyed 300 years ago in a great war. Now there are mostly just crumbling ruins or a once great nation.
This map was given to the players during the first session as a prop to help them get around. They started as a bunch of humans from earth that were magically transported into this world with absolutely no knowledge of it so I gave them this map and a compass that they could use to try and help them figure out where to go. Some of the things around the side are clues with words strategically burned out. Funny enough, they never figured out all of them even after playing the campaign for 4 years.
Done with ink on watercolor paper. Then stained with coffee and finally finished by burning the edges.

Thanks. That’s what I’ve always tried to go for. I just wish they didn’t take me so long to do otherwise I’d do more of them.
Definitely need to work on my penmanship as I feel that’s always been my one weakness with these. I’ve also always contemplated using watercolor to color them and I’m planning on some practice map experiments soon to explore that.

Yeah, this was the first one I did. It was actually pretty fun because I presented it as a prop to my players so they looked over it and tried to find all of the hidden details as well as try and figure out where the hell they were since they were just teleported randomly onto Almain.
