A Tale of Tails, 7-68 - Pingu survivor!
Benevolence saves his hide! Also, if my count isn't entirely off, this is page 500. I'm not doing anything special for it, because I'm doing something special for something else that's coming up in a couple weeks. ;D

Nice. While no slaver deserves to get off Scott free, some such people are in bad situations themselves where the only way to survive is to do the despicable. Especially when it isn’t actually illegal.
Given a choice, I think he’ll do more with his life. He deserves a chance at redemption.

I think a small problem with that statement is that he might not be a slaver. If he was just a mercenary who was hired and didn't know what he was being hired for...
Even worse, when he got in to the situation, he might not have been able to get out of it, he clearly can't do magic and how do you run away from a chick with a gun? Argue with a guy three times your size? Fight against superior numbers?
Best you can do is hold your tongue and try to make the best of the situation you're in. Also based on Jay's reaction (The guy who got choked out by a chain) I think the two got stuck between a rock and a hard place.

You know, it's strange. I admit I don't know the range of people that would take up the employment as a slaver. But this bird didn't seem to have the mentality for it. Either this is their first stint at it or something else is going on.
Still, they are lucky. I guess they managed to score enough karma points to not meet Lamb's very sharp point.

Pessimist time!
Was it altruistic, or just good business? An underfed / injured / ill slave doesn't fetch as good a price, as the buyer would have to spend extra time and money nursing them back into a serviceable state for training.
Also, as the 'reasonable one', he could talk down the girls if they sought to flee. By Tamusa being the 'bad guy', his worst becomes the threat of what'll happen if they try to flee and he re-captures them.

She also probably have more weight in her opinion because the current groups is very likely not the first she saw Penguin Dude helping. And since Tamusa very likely did to her the same he did to Lamb years before, he also was probably the only one in the crew who didn't abused her (so much he even tried to dialogue with her when she started strangling Jay, the big bird dude, instead of getting violent with her as I think any other member of Tamusa's crew would do).
Skipper, “ Kowalski! Status report!”
Kowalski, “It appears we’ve been speared, and the bodies are being taken of, sir.”
Skipper, “For now… we’re safe for now. Alright Private, here’s your chance to prove your self… private?”
Kowalski, “He didn’t make it, sir. The bear fell on him while the woman was stab-happy.”

I don't see that Ignin mage anywhere. I'm guessing she didn't survive having her arm severed at the shoulder (and possibly some blast injuries to her lungs from Lamb's exploding dagger move) for long. Either that, or she managed to run off while the boss was getting his comeuppance.
The major vessels of the heart travel leftwards. Even without perforation of the pericardium, there's still the aorta and its branches - the left and right common carotids (feeding the head and especially the brain), the right and left subclavian (arms and upper torso), and the descending aorta to feed the lower torso and legs.
Cutting those open close to the source tends to be on the fatal side.

Tried to get the slaves set free.
Tried to talk Lillie out of strangling a dude to death instead of using his crossbow.
Spoke against his boss at risk of his own bodily harm.
Probably the only Slaver there working towards something positive.
There's a chance for redemption there. I'd love to hear his story.
Probably something along the lines of:
Tamusa: "You're cute. You work for me now."
Dee: "Wait... What? Don't I get a say in this?"
Tamusa: "Nope."

Actually if my count is right, this is page 504. How do I know? Uhh... I kind of have every page saved on my computer ':D Anyway, very impressive work. I didn't think years ago this comic would be still going in 2023 when I stumbled upon it randomly. Keep on doing great work!
Well if I can play devil's advocate here.
Actions have consequences of a sort right? Could be nothing happens but also could be those slavers knew people who liked them and would cause a lot more problems for protagonists or others surrounding the freed slaves. I'm reminded back at the page where melisa told fen to assist in the first place. Seeing as panda girl handled things I'm left wondering if its something more brutal as a bigger threat or underground social economic underlying issues.
