Y Dyn Hysbys, or "The Wise Man"
Born in northwestern Wales, Deborah Cadwaladr always felt different from her peers. Since childhood, she claimed to have memories of places and things that were part of medieval, even ancient history. She possessed an intricate knowledge and intuition about Welsh history and the Celtic peoples of the British Isles that led her first to study history and archaeology and later Wicca and the occult. As she learned from the past, she discovered more about her present.
Withdrawn and introspective, Deborah believes she is the latest reincarnation of a Celtic druid, what is known in Welsh as "Y Dyn Hysbys." Though she identifies as female "for convenience," past life memories often bring her intense bouts of dysphoria.
While identifying as transgender, she chooses to forego transitioning. She dismisses as "a waste of effort" on something she considers ephemeral. Because there is the possibility that she will simply be reborn as male next time. And she's certain there will always be a next time.
