So now it's time for wings. Wings can be made as complex or as simple as you want them to be. Knowing that they are just a variation of your own hand and fingers helps when you need to fold the wing sail for a drawing. Your model is as close as your own hand that way. :)

Stronger, actually. A single finger bone all the way down would be very vulnerable. Having a knuckle there for flexibility makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure how strong it would be though. Not much room for tendons. But at least it could hinge in non-flight situations.
