The meeting between Mr. Tumnus and one of the 2 girls in the 4 children who enterred Narnia through the Wardrobe near Lantern Waste * in the opening chapters of THE LION,THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE has always evoked in me the prurient image of satyrs in sexual excitement botheriing nymphs . Greek pottery was quite candid as you can readily see in IMAGES.
* The ever-burning lamp post in the forest, my capitalizing Wardrobe, and a few other things were, oddly enough, NOT explained in that first Narnian novel, but were left for THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW . Mr. Lewis must have planned the explanation for these things long before he finally wrote them into that late novel, as they were VERY satisfactory.
