What was once a gently smoldering flame suddenly erupted into a ethereal blaze, ghostly tendrils of incandescent splendor swirling and surrounding him, seemingly attracted to his very essence. The heat of that curious fire on his skin beneath his fur was shockingly intense, and yet it did not singe or burn him. Rather than feeling painful or even unpleasant, there was only the feeling of the swelling and surging power of the flame as it enveloped his form. The unnatural movement was mesmerizing, the allure of its heat was intoxicating. He raised his hands before him, watching how that summoned flame danced, spitting ember and forked tongues licking at his arms. The trailing fire swirled around his bicep and forearm as he drew it into his hands, molding and shaping it to his will. In less time than it took to lower his arms, the forbidden flames began to dissipate and recede, leaving behind only the mundane camp fire, its flame and light but a pitiful glow in the night. He felt himself unable to suppress a shiver that wracked his whole body. He had never experienced such a profound chill before, not until he had felt the gift of fire… and the feeling of vulnerability and emptiness when he was deprived of it. He yearned to feel the warmth again, to claim it as his own.
