been working on this off and on for a few weeks now. The main villain, her three forms, and the transfigured children who became her servants. These are too hard to organize left-to-right, so I'll just go for it
The Queen of Boughs, Ancient Archfey Once a shapeshifting shadow fey called the Briar Maiden. She ascended to power in an age long since past and gained the ability to manipulate nightmares. Though most thought she was slain at the turning of the ages history from that era is muddied and legends are often intertwined with truth. In the current age her power has been greatly diminished: she is limited to the form of a massive elk, an upright shadow wearing bones, and a skeletal mess of brambles and claws. Fortunately she was defeated before her wicked plans proceeded any further.
Father Dolph, Blackwood Willow. Dolph Olander, once a priest of the Wanderer's church who married an Owlin widow named Sonora. His family was devastated by his sudden and bloody disappearance and thought he was murdered, but he was actually still alive and transformed into a fey-touched tree. Prior to his vanishing the curse claimed the life of a young goblin girl named Morka, whom was initially intended to act as the wedding officiant. Most of Dolph and Morka's transfigured lives were spent trapped in a waking nightmare as the tree overtook their bodies; the same curse would have befallen the local archdruid if not for Caraway and her adoptive mother's intervention. With the Queen slain Dolph has finally been freed, though his final reunion with Sonora was bittersweet.
Hazelwings, Nightowl. Rusul Thistledown, Sonora's first child. He and the other children were abducted 12 years ago by the Queen of Boughs, thus losing their names, memories, and original shapes. Through her power they gained new and terrifying forms taken from mortal myths, Rusul being transformed into a beast called the Nightowl. A legendary bird of enormous size said to usher the moon across the sky and keep watch for children staying up after curfew, the nightowl's feathers are sharp as swords and deadly to the touch. Chippie cleverly took advantage of this property to have a unique non-metal sword made. Hazelwings was often looked up to as second in command due to his firm demeanor, though he was never a match for Reaver in terms of power. Reuniting with his mother helped him to remember himself, and the kind words imparted by Karl and K'zeth helped him to fight the queen's influence.
Reaver, Harvest Lord. Wheyson, mandrake. One of many sons of a peasant family taken away from his brothers and sisters. The myth of the Harvest Lord has persisted through history, mostly as a supernatural explanation for the extreme ups and downs that come naturally to farming. With the power to cause crops to either flourish or wither, a fiery gaze able to drive mortals mad with fear, and vines strong enough to throw a fully grown bull across a country mile, Reaver was one of the strongest and largest of the Queen's servants. His quiet disposition made him easy to talk over, yet few of his fellows could ever best him in a fight. Some even thought he could overpower the queen herself if his will was stronger, though she kept him docile through horrific night terrors.
Reynardine, Foxen Fiddler Corian Russet, foxitt. A mischievious boy who enjoyed making others laugh and playing hide and seek. Perhaps it was fitting that the beast he was turned into was also known to delight in games and smiles: the Foxen Fiddler is a mythical figure with a penchant for mischief and illusions, well known for leading travelers astray and tricking the unwary. After a confrontation with the party Reynardine remembered himself and agreed to assist the heroes in their quest, even providing a Major Illusion as distraction during the wedding ceremony while they rescued Huron from the altar. Though not especially brave or strong, his illusion helped get the fight started on the right foot.
Tempest, Storm Maiden Narcissa Porter, human. A flighty girl whose father was a wealthy merchant. Even as a child she was strong-willed and independent and was easily led into the woods by the Queen. For her foolishness, she was turned into a roving elemental thought to dance with thunder during rainstorms, but the stolen scepter of the sea prince allowed her to conjure them for herself. Her selfish antics caused the region to be bombarded by unseasonably strong rains all summer, doing untold damage to crops, homes, and livelihoods... But she hardly seemed to mind so long as she was enjoying herself. Fortunately she was easily defeated by Hazelwings, and the scepter was returned to its rightful royal owner.
Fleet, Jackalope Hortensia Halfacre, harengon. Once the daughter of a servant woman, now a half-rabbit half-deer beast fabled for its blinding speeds. What she lacks in strength she more than makes up for with agility, though her horns and bite aren't to be taken lightly. She typically acted as a messenger and scout for the queen, but her loyalty was easily shifted when Propeller confronted her with her true name. She still sees the other transfigured children as her friends and wants to help them adjust to a life of freedom as best she can.
Cosmia, Sasquatch Pearl Caross, firbolg. Adopted by the captain of the guard and formerly the apple of his eye, she was known to be the brightest smile in the room even at the tender age of 7. Even transfigured into a mythical beast she retained her sweet disposition, though now her strength far outstrips most mortals. Once angered she can perform even more devastating feats of strength, though is still able to vanish in woodlands when she needs to. She prefers singing and playing the harp to fighting, though harps are more like lyres in her massive hands.
Verio, Green Knight Joss Fields, hobgoblin. Son of a cartwright, now the queen's loyal knight. The legends of the green knight say is able to challenge any opponent to a duel they can't refuse, and works staunchly to protect the forest from those who would harm it. Wearing armor of bark and leaves might make him seem fragile, but he is anything but: he can survive burning and even decapitation. His attempt to challenge Karl was quickly diminished when restrained by Risa's spell and led to a swift (and hilarious) defeat.
Isengrim, Lycanthrope King Dorian Hunt, human lycanthrope. Born a lycanthrope, Dorian was raised to fear his curse and keep it hidden at all times. Rumors swirled about him from an early age and made friends difficult to come by, save for Huron who was willing to give him a chance. When transformed by the Queen he became the fabled embodiment of the lycanthrope's curse: the king of werebeasts. His bite is said to turn victims into whatever beast is dormant inside them, and unfortunately Chippie fell victim to it and became a wereraven. His moods are heavily effected by the cycle of the moon, but his physical power and rivalry with Reynardine remain constant.
Pine, Myconid Queen Myra Fleurette, half-elf. A kindhearted girl whose father called her "Mayflower." The oldest of the children who went missing, she remains the most level-headed and mature of the Queen's court. Myconid queens were said to command armies upon armies of myconids, several of which grew into unique forms through her magic and care. Most of her lonely days were spent hidden in her hut in the depths of the woods tending to her "family" of myconids, though the Queen's orders put her under great stress and led to a confrontation with the adventurer's guild. Hearing her old name finally broke Pine free from the queen's command, and led her to fight back. Now free, she set Chanterelle free as well.
Fleur, Moonbloom Sprite Deeda Ploverly, halfling. A tiny girl who became that much tinier with the Queen's wicked magic. Moonbloom flowers were said to be rare blooms that open only on moonless nights and act homes for pixies who heal the sick and injured, and can call swarms of fey beasts to protect the innocent. Fleur spent every other night and day asleep unless called upon by the queen, but with her defeat she was no longer bound to her flower prison. Unfortunately, so many years dreaming have left her unsure of the waking world and her place in it.
Tentala, Lou Carcolh Lucinda "Cinge" Coalmouth, dragonborn. A miner's daughter now twisted beyond recognition by fey magic. Whenever the queen's servitors disobeyed her she'd warp their forms even more, and Tentala had defied her most of all. For the crime of attempting to sabotage the wedding she was reduced to little more than a mindless monster who acted only to serve. With several long tongues, a sharp shell, and trails of slick slime to trip up foes and prey, she has proven a slippery opponent more than once. With the queen defeated, it's unclear what, if anything can be done to help restore Tentala and the others to their original selves.
Prokhor, Tsar Vodyanik Karpus Bogdanov, grung. Always fond of swimming, Karpus made it his goal to swim across the Quartaina sea. Whether or not this was going to be possible for the young grung became irrelevant once the queen turned him to a monster. Fairytales speak of monsters who hide in swamps and rivers and cause mischief: drowning livestock and swimmers, flooding dams, and stealing away beautiful men and women. It's said these monsters are ruled by a tsar that shapes new lakes and swamps for them to inhabit, one who fishermen make sacrifices to for luck. Though Prokhor is the only one of his kind at present he seems far more interested in chatting up attractive people then shaping bodies of water or building a kingdom to match his title. The first time he met with the heroes he didn't seem all that interested in fighting but persisted out of fear of the Queen. The second time, the heroes turned him against the queen and finally freed him from her control.
