I find the little bits of vulpine body language Niamh has picked up particularly interesting. I wonder if that habit of laying her ears flat when angry might cause trouble sometimes? After all, rabbits (at least, European ones; I don't know for sure about cottontails) lay their ears flat when relaxed -- when they don't feel they need them raised to listen for danger -- so it's quite an unlapine thing to do.
Marcan... I don't know if I want to spend much time talking about him! He really is such a nasty piece of work, and I'm sure without his position would be a nobody. I'd imagine he knows that, and exploits it to the full. And that fox captain who goes on about burning in Hell -- and calls Niamh "it" -- I wouldn't be at all surprised if Marcan's manipulations are involved somewhere ther too.

Do you know, I hadn't actually thought about the kinds of confusion that might cause? I'm pretty sure that cottontails do the same thing when they're feeling relaxed, too. That might make for an interesting idea to play with in a short story at some point.
As for Maracan, well all I can say is I'm actually kind of glad that you dislike him so much. I tried not to make him just a cardboard cutout villain. Even the worst person in the world is still a person. But he's just about the worst sort of manipulative jerk I can think of, and I'm sure his teachings and opinions have had a marked effect on at least some of his congregation.
