After the last chapter, Vayryn is rocking a custom-made outfit. Caroline made a couple other pieces of clothing, so she has a couple pairs of shorts and a few shirts, but that's it for now. So she still mostly just lounges in shirts while at home.
Having her entire body rebuilt on a cellular level has actually helped out a lot with her medical problems, and she's feeling well enough to start trying to get back into programming. But first, she has to deal with an ambush interview from the local Channel 18 news! Word is spreading of the little yinglet, people are taking notice...
But that's a problem for Future Vayryn, surely. For now, her attempts to take on programming work is actually going well. Or is it? Well, it was nice while it lasted.

There's a quote from an old 3G mobile point-and-click game called Mansion Mystery that comes to mind regarding humanity: "It's not how you were made that makes you human, it's how you think and act that makes you human."
It's just something that occasionally comes to mind when reading these kinds of stories. In a way, Vayryn is just as human as everyone else so long as she can think and act like a human.

Part of the problem is so much of human thought conflates the idea of "human" and "person". Vayryn isn't human, she has to deal with problems and anatomy and experiences that humans don't. And she'll always be "Other", for the majority of humans. A thing they will band together to exclude, like the guy in the store being covered for by the store manager.
She's just as much a person as everyone else, the trick is making sure everyone else doesn't lose sight of that.
