After I said I was a Sonic fan back with the Jet pic, someone on Steam recommended I try out the IDW comics since Archie's run is dead. (IDW will probably be soon if that stock price is any indication).

I got through the whole thing in 2 days. Yes it has it's problems (like them not knowing what to do with Shadow but literally no one in SEGA knows how to write him) but no run is perfect.

I like Surge. She's supposed to be IDW's answer to Scourge after they lost the rights to him to the Penders lawsuit. I love how unapologetically batshit insane she is. Sonic doesn't typically have any leading female antagonist either (so Rouge, Wave, and Sage don't count). But what ended up making her my fav character was just how dangerous she was to the other characters. Since the SEGA mandates can't have Sonic losing a fight without their permission, the only way to actually display a threat is by having the threat interact with his friends.

Case in point, her fight with Whisper the Wolf. The Quiet/Sniper Wolf homage who's literally a "sniper wolf" that's shown to be competent and professional for the most part gets the lupine shit knocked out of her in a fight against Surge. It got so bad for Whisper that she had to resort to breaking off a piece of broken glass from her gun and tried to shiv her with it. Which worked about as well against someone who could move lightning speed as you would expect, but at least you tried. So this is what the pic is based on.

No I don't hate Whisper, she has her own strengths (like her design). But she's no Surge.
