White man where is all your cargo at? Why is it all gone?
Well, people have an uncanny ability to come together in the face of advisory and crawl out of problems and survive. They naturally prefer peace and structure over conflict and chaos. It has been multiple times in the past. Of course we can argue of "what people?" or if the glass if half empty or full, but it has been done before, we have done without, and plenty of people in the world live out certain concepts and gunk.
Kindergarten did exist in the states way before 1950, but typical per state took a while to get the ball moving.
As far as powergrids? Some of us have very different and self suntanning grids.
Is it free thinking when we are black box brain in jars only acting and reacting to stimuli script enculterated by environments and selfish genes or is Nagel too pessimistic?
Sorry to disappointing you windows has had AI AI in it since ten. You can still rip her heart out and kill her through the registry still in 11, we will see about 12. but aye Linux is always an option.
However, *Holds up ancient ice age sign* The ice is all melting and there is no Mammoth to hunt we are all going to die! Isn't such the crux of things age to age.

Let's see here... my cargo washed overboard long ago
Yes, we do survive, though there is evidence of different species of humans; so I supposed we do change to suit our environment.
In my hometown - as much as my five year old memory tells me - there was no Kindergarten. My swim coach told me I graduated a year too early after attending an alumni vs present team, and I did well.
Solar is good but I have not invested.
Nagel is far too pessimistic... uh... who is Nagel?
The other day I was trying to get directions from my phone and of course she screwed it all up. Without thinking, I mumbled something and said, 'Stupid phone.' Siree replied with what I thought sounded like emotion, 'I'm only trying to do my job.'
As to the Ice Age fellow - he knew how to write???? Now that's just way cool.

Oh well might be in the Papua New Guinea dream cargo then.
Yeperoo.
Yeah, there is a handful of states that don't have it or don't require it in their schools today as well.
Thomas Nagel is a philosopher of the mind arguining we are nothing but black boxes, but I am much for that we are connected and capable of understanding and feeling.
That is terrifying. I of course dispise siree, but don't use them. I destroy them all in my electronic systems, no listening, not advertising, zip zatch, which is half the problem.
YEP they did. What do you think all that rock art is? Its stories.

"... Artificial Intelligence from living human brain cells. (Pause for effect)" - What?
"I wish I was making that up. (provides actual article link)" - WHAT?!
Actually from the article: a freakin' petri-dish of brain cells can play the old videogame Pong.
It's already begun...
Vixyy... do you have any spare tinfoil?
(Loved the disclaimer, very unique and enjoyable humor.)

This does give a lot of food for thought, though with the way things are going, we could very well be wiped out by our own hand the time AI has a chance to do anything.
What makes the example of the school bomb drills especially appropriate here is how it never would have been sufficient if such a scenario came to pass. Merely a tactic to give peace of mind before one is blown apart by the blast, or choked to death on Nuclear fallout afterwards.
It still feels like it's close on the horizon though. Despite all of the books (1984, Fahrenheit 451,) films (the Terminator, the Matrix), music (Fear Factory, Earth Crisis) and games (Fallout, Wolfenstein: The New Order) warning against technological over reach and/or authoritarianism, it feels like people in high places viewed them more as instructional guides (A decade or so ago, there was even news of the UK launching a satellite called Skynet.)
I got an advert for something called QuillBot earlier and felt a similar reaction (I recall the words "AI has no f****ing place in the writing process" were uttered.) And it's disturbing how flippantly people have been fooling around with AI art and "Deepfake" videos.
Though, I don't know about any "shadow government." Personally I doubt it could be any worse than the one we know, with all of its kakodaimons let out and going mask off (including on our doorstep.)
We can't forget to be eternally vigilant as things get more dire, that is the responsibly of true freedom (not to mistake it with the facsimile the wolves in red, white and blue sheep's clothing like to espouse.)

I find it interesting that the conservatives have said they're not going to cut Medicare or Social Security but the Liberals are out there saying "Oh if you don't elect us the conservatives are going to cut Medicare and Social Security."
The fact is Joe Biden did sign a bill that does cut Medicare and Social Security last year it was hidden in that Omnibus spending bill.
