Generally flintknapping involves a lot of high silica rocks and as a hobbyist (bad) flintknapper while obsidian could be on the table, they are probably referring to fine grained basalt.
Knap a hide scraper and get some sharp flakes, cut the fur short and then use a scraper to scrape off the rest of the fur, works fine
